There’s a variety of ways to deal with a damaged windshield if the damage is only a small chip or crack. You can use a windshield repair kit that will contain a syringe to inject fluid into the crack or chip; next you’ll create a vacuum using the kit while the fluid hardens, then tidy up the edges of the hardened fluid with a razor blade. The other method involves using a special kit that comes with 2 types of adhesives that you have to mix together then inject into the crack with a syringe that the kit will come with, although with the second method you have to be much more precise in the injection phase.

Dealing with windshield cracks and chips can be very tricky business and the slightest mistake can lead to a damaged windshield that will need to be fully replaced by our team of specialists. The best thing to do if you spot a crack or chip is to call the A1 Autoglass team and have us come out to repair your chip or crack ourselves, or if need be we can do a full replacement for you and even handle the paperwork so you get the replacement covered under your insurance policy with the deductibles being covered in full.

The windshield glass in your car is not like ordinary glass you’d find in your house, which if put under stress will shatter into sharp, dangerous shards. Auto glass is a type of glass called tempered glass which is two layers of ordinary glass with a layer of clear rubber between the glass panes called butacite PVB. The advantage to this over ordinary glass is that the rubber acts as a shock absorber, and if a stone does manage to pierce the glass then it’s likely it’ll only pierce through the outer layer of glass. Even if a larger stone does manage to pierce through both the outer and inner layers of glass, due to the inner layer of rubber the glass won’t shatter and end up on the driver and passenger inside the car.
